This is Purl Soho’s pointy hat for newborns, made from a kit I bought in their dreamy NYC shop almost a year ago [Editor’s note: The kit appears to be discontinued, but the pattern and yarn are available online.]
Pros: The texture of this cotton slub yarn — and the airy fabric it creates — is undeniably lovely. I don’t even know which baby will wear this, but I’m already kind of jealous of them.
Cons: Tiny needles and thread-width yarn (ugh); my inability to ever get gauge right. This is supposed to fit a tiny newborn head. It’s hard to tell from the photo, and I know basically nothing about babies, but I think this would probably cover a newborn’s entire head, neck and shoulders, even though I went down two needle sizes to try and correctly gauge my stitches. ::shrug emoji::
Anyone have any tips for getting gauge/sizing just right?
